Changing your freenet dial up number

We are enhancing your dial up Internet service to make it even more robust and reliable and as a result, the dial up number you use to connect to the Internet is changing to 087304594. The dial up number you are currently using will be unavailable from 20 July 2007.

To assist you, step by step guides to changing your dial up number are below. Simply select your operating system and follow the instructions to change the number that your computer will dial when connecting to Compass dial up.

Windows XP - Home and Professional Editions

Step One;
Click on the START button, move over to CONNECT TO, then click on your dial up connection.

Step One;    (for users with Classic view)
Click on the START button, move up to SETTINGS, across to NETWORK CONNECTIONS,
then click on your dial up connection.

Step Two;
In the field near the bottom of the connection box, you will see the telephone number your
computer is set to dial to. You need to remove everything that is in this box.

As per the second image below, change the telephone number to;087304594

Special Note;

If you have CALL MINDER, you will need to put in three commas in front of the number;      ,,,087304594
If you have CALL WAITING, you will need to put in *52, in front of the number;                    *52,087304594
If you have both services, you will need to enter it as this;                                                 ,,,*52,087304594    



 

Step Three (optional);
If you are travelling around New Zealand and need to switch between the new and old number, you can define alternative telephone numbers that will be used if the new number does not successfully connect to the Internet.

Once you have entered the phone number, click the Properties button


Windows will ask if you want to make the phone number permenant. Select YES.


Select the “Alternates” button.


Click the “Add” button.


Enter in the old phone number and click OK.


Press the OK button.


Select the OK key.


That is all you have to do to select an alternate phone number.

Step Four;
Once you have entered the phone number, click on the DIAL button. Windows will now ask if you are sure you wish to make the phone number change permanent - select YES.

This is all you have to do in order to change the telephone number!

Step Two;
Click and open the option DIAL-UP NETWORKING.

Step Three;
With your right mouse button, click on your dial up connection, move the mouse down to PROPERTIES, and with the left mouse button, click on PROPERTIES.

Step Four;
Near the top you will see a field named TELEPHONE NUMBER. You need to remove anything that is in this box.

Once you have removed everything, type in the new dial-up number as per the second image below;    087304594

Once you have entered the new dial-up number, simply click on OK, and you're all done!

From the available icons, double left-mouse click on the DIAL-UP NETWORKING icon.

Step Three;
Now in the Dial-Up Networking window, click on the right mouse button on your dial up connection.

Step Four;
Near the top you will see a field named TELEPHONE NUMBER. You need to remove anything that is in this box.

Once you have removed everything, type in the new dial-up number as per the second image below;    087304594

Once you have entered the new dial-up number, simply click on OK, and you're all done!
