What is webmail?

Webmail allows freenet customers to read their email with just a web browser and Internet connection.

Webmail is often used by travelers who have access to the Internet in a Cyber Cafe, on a friend's computer, or in a library.

Webmail allows freenet users away from their home computer to read and send email without having to configure an email program such as Outlook or Eudora
.

freenet webmail allows you to read, send, and delete your email directly from the server without the need of a standard email program.

freenet webmail does not remove the messages from the server, unless you specifically delete them. You can read your email while you are away and know that when you get home, all of your email will be there ready for you to download into your email program.

freenet webmail can also help you remove troublesome messages that may be too large to download with a standard email client.

Who can use freenet webmail?
freenet provides this service free to freenet account holders. freenet webmail allows freenet customers to check their email from any computer that has an IE4+ or Netscape 4+ web browser and a connection to the Internet.

How do I log into freenet webmail?
To log into freenet webmail, you will need to enter your username and password as prompted, and then click the Login button. It is important to remember the following when logging in:

  • Do not enter your full email address, only the 2 to 8 character username. For example, if your username is john@free.net.nz only enter john as the username.
  • Usernames and passwords are CaSe SeNsItIvE. Make sure you enter yours correctly.

Important Note: Webmail stores your messages on the server. It is important to delete any old messages that you don't need to save. If messages are never deleted, you may hit the 3MB quota on your mail box, causing new incoming messages to be returned to the sender.

The URL to access freenet webmail is: http://mail.free.net.nz
